4:5 Aspect Ratio Calculator

The 4:5 aspect ratio means 4 units wide for every 5 tall — portrait posts that fill the feed. It is used for Instagram and Facebook portrait posts (1080×1350), Pinterest-style layouts, portrait photography crops.

Matching height: —

Matching width: —

Scaled values are rounded to whole pixels when they land within 0.01 px of an integer; otherwise the exact figure is shown — a video encoder or design tool may round slightly differently.

Common 4:5 resolutions

Every size in this table is exactly 4:5 — width × 5 equals height × 4 for each row, which you can check with the gcd method on the how-to page.

About the 4:5 ratio

4:5 is the tallest ratio Instagram allows for a standard feed post, which is why it became the default portrait size for social design: more screen height per post, without being cropped.

To find a 4:5 size yourself: pick a width, then height = width × 5 ÷ 4. For whole-pixel results, choose a width that is a multiple of 4 — the height then comes out exact, with no rounding.

Frequently asked questions

What resolution is 4:5?

There is no single 4:5 resolution — the ratio describes a shape, not a size. Common 4:5 sizes include 480×600, 800×1000, 1080×1350 and the rest of the table above.

How do I convert a size to 4:5?

Keep one dimension and solve for the other: height = width × 5 ÷ 4, or width = height × 4 ÷ 5. The calculator at the top of this page is pre-filled with a 4:5 size so you can try it immediately.

Is 4:5 the same as its decimal?

The decimal form is width ÷ height (0.8000:1 for 4:5). The fraction form is exact; the decimal is an approximation that is handy for comparing shapes at a glance.
