16:9 Aspect Ratio Calculator
The 16:9 aspect ratio means 16 units wide for every 9 tall — widescreen hd & 4k video. It is used for YouTube and streaming video, HDTV, most laptop and monitor panels, presentation slides.
Scale it, keeping this ratio
Matching height: —
Matching width: —
Scaled values are rounded to whole pixels when they land within 0.01 px of an integer; otherwise the exact figure is shown — a video encoder or design tool may round slightly differently.
Pick an image file and this page reads its real pixel dimensions on your device and fills them in above. The file is never uploaded anywhere.
Common 16:9 resolutions
Every size in this table is exactly 16:9 — width × 9 equals height × 16 for each row, which you can check with the gcd method on the how-to page.

About the 16:9 ratio
16:9 has been the default shape of video since HDTV. If a width is a multiple of 16, the matching height is a whole number — which is why 1280×720, 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 all land exactly.
To find a 16:9 size yourself: pick a width, then height = width × 9 ÷ 16. For whole-pixel results, choose a width that is a multiple of 16 — the height then comes out exact, with no rounding.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution is 16:9?
There is no single 16:9 resolution — the ratio describes a shape, not a size. Common 16:9 sizes include 640×360, 960×540, 1024×576 and the rest of the table above.
How do I convert a size to 16:9?
Keep one dimension and solve for the other: height = width × 9 ÷ 16, or width = height × 16 ÷ 9. The calculator at the top of this page is pre-filled with a 16:9 size so you can try it immediately.
Is 16:9 the same as its decimal?
The decimal form is width ÷ height (1.7778:1 for 16:9). The fraction form is exact; the decimal is an approximation that is handy for comparing shapes at a glance.
