1:1 Aspect Ratio Calculator
The 1:1 aspect ratio means 1 units wide for every 1 tall — the square. It is used for Instagram square posts, profile pictures and avatars everywhere, product thumbnails, app icons.
Scale it, keeping this ratio
Matching height: —
Matching width: —
Scaled values are rounded to whole pixels when they land within 0.01 px of an integer; otherwise the exact figure is shown — a video encoder or design tool may round slightly differently.
Pick an image file and this page reads its real pixel dimensions on your device and fills them in above. The file is never uploaded anywhere.
Common 1:1 resolutions
Every size in this table is exactly 1:1 — width × 1 equals height × 1 for each row, which you can check with the gcd method on the how-to page.
| Resolution | Width (px) | Height (px) | Typically used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400×400 | 400 | 400 | Avatar minimum |
| 600×600 | 600 | 600 | Small square |
| 800×800 | 800 | 800 | Web thumbnail |
| 1000×1000 | 1000 | 1000 | 1000×1000 |
| 1080×1080 | 1080 | 1080 | Instagram square post |
| 1500×1500 | 1500 | 1500 | 1500×1500 |
| 2000×2000 | 2000 | 2000 | 2K square |
| 3000×3000 | 3000 | 3000 | Print-ready square |
About the 1:1 ratio
A square has the same width and height at any size, so the only question is resolution: 1080×1080 is the long-standing Instagram square, and most avatar systems accept any square from 400×400 up.
To find a 1:1 size yourself: pick a width, then height = width × 1 ÷ 1. For whole-pixel results, choose a width that is a multiple of 1 — the height then comes out exact, with no rounding.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution is 1:1?
There is no single 1:1 resolution — the ratio describes a shape, not a size. Common 1:1 sizes include 400×400, 600×600, 800×800 and the rest of the table above.
How do I convert a size to 1:1?
Keep one dimension and solve for the other: height = width × 1 ÷ 1, or width = height × 1 ÷ 1. The calculator at the top of this page is pre-filled with a 1:1 size so you can try it immediately.
Is 1:1 the same as its decimal?
The decimal form is width ÷ height (1.0000:1 for 1:1). The fraction form is exact; the decimal is an approximation that is handy for comparing shapes at a glance.
